Twenty-eighteen saw\nPFOM expand the brief to include the similarly stellar talents of Jay Farrar,\nJackson Browne, Tom Petty, Neil Young and, at the risk of paled comparisons,\nConant and Phillips themselves. Expect a sampling of all this on April 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the primary inspirations for\nPFOM were Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, its secondary influence has been the\nseminal alt-country band <em>Uncle Tupelo<\/em>,\nthe fertile collaboration of Farrar and Jeff Tweedy. Indeed, PFOM nearly named\nthemselves <em>The Belleville Boys<\/em>, after\nthese two native sons Belleville, Illinois, where, incidentally, Conant was also\nborn (his father had been based at nearby Scott Air Force Base). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The long-term goal of PFOM is to present\na complete evening of live music: a two-man acoustic set followed by a second\nfeaturing full-band treatment of like material \u2014 to further demonstrate the\nremarkable versatility and power of top-drawer songwriting. Re-animating the <em>Uncle Tupelo<\/em> sound is PFOM\u2019s hope for\nSet II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Farrar and Tweedy would dissolve<em> Uncle Tupelo<\/em> amid not insignificant\nrancor in 1994, almost immediately following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zWiUkQMs5zM&amp;fbclid=IwAR2KM3UD1Ec86HazpuxKyKDIUJcJgfJPvE9jg5T8jS1HSpE3e9Q2aNpV6UA\">this\nclub show<\/a> in St. Louis. It\u2019s an amazing performance at the peak of their\npowers when apparently \u2014 according to an oral history recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/music\/music-country\/uncle-tupelos-anodyne-at-25-oral-history-wilco-733327\/\">published\nin Rolling Stone<\/a> \u2014 the two band principals were not speaking to each other.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Farrar would soon form his own band, <em>Son Volt<\/em>, further advancing the alt-country genre; the landmark album <em>Trace<\/em> (1996) at first gave the impression that perhaps he was the true genius behind <em>Uncle Tupelo<\/em>.
